On cock fights.

On cock fights.

Blame the full moon, the unbearably long cold snap or the ranging hormones, but our roosters had quite the bloody duel a few weeks ago. We tend to be more hands off with these things and let nature figure itself out. But watch was kept, waiting and wondering if our introduction to chicken butchering was coming sooner than later.

When the feathers settled, the blood could be seen from the house.

The previous rooster in charge clearly lost and I found myself wishing I had made that medical pen sooner.

But necessity breeds ingenuity, right? A quick rig up of hardware cloth made a pen suitable for keeping curious hens from seeing red.

Unfortunately, the score was not settled. As soon as these two were reintroduced, a few crows were heard and the feathers flew once again.

I guess it’s just luck that we havent had an issue thus far but goodness, lesson learned.

Don’t have two roosters.
