The day has been a hard one already. Ive yelled at my kids, felt overwhelmed by my to-do list and cant help but feel the waves of anxiety beginning to well up – I am feeling not enough.

In these moments, I know I need a break. As Ive been learning how to care for myself properly, I know that when this anxiety and overwhelming wave crashes over me, I must pause.

I grab my needles and begin…

Click. Click.

Click. Click.

See, there’s a meditative power to knitting.

We cant quite explain it, we’re not quite sure how the magic happens, but we know that it does.

As the Click. Click. continues, I feel myself change. Much in the same way the yarn transforms itself, I too begin to feel a transformation take place.

Soon my attention focuses.
My mind begins to quiet.
My breathing deepens.
And I begin to feel at peace – an acceptance of sorts.

“I can never keep this house clean….”

Click. Click.

Click. Click.

“But Im doing the best I can…”

Click. Click.

Click. Click.

“I wish I hadn’t yelled at the kids…”

Click. Click.

Click. Click.

“But I can say Im sorry and try again…”

This is my invitation to you. When you’re feeling that wave of anxiety or frustration, grab some yarn and needles and see what happens. Its better than throat punching, I promise.
